1. Syllabus: We will cover most of the material from Chapters 13-17. Math 175 is particularly important for science and engineering students. It is vital for you to have a good understanding of vector calculus, motion in space, multiple integration, line integrals, and surface integrals.

2. Attendance: Attendance is expected for each class meeting. More than 3 absences will be considered "excessive" on the mid semester progress report.

3. Office hours: Everybody is strongly encouraged to attend scheduled office hours or to make special appointments, in particular, if difficulties arise. Do not wait until it is too late! Small deficiencies at the beginning tend rapidly to grow to big ones.

4. Homework: Homework is assigned daily. You are strongly encouraged to work together. Doing homework is a "must" for succeeding in the course. Do homework always in writing as if it were a test. You should attempt many additional exercises until complete mastery of skills is obtained. Homework assignments are posted on http://www.math.vanderbilt.edu/~simonett/classes/175.html.

5. Quizzes: 9 quizzes, 20 pts each, will be given during the semester. Quizzes are always on Wednesdays. Make-ups will only be given if extraordinary circumstances prevent attendance. You will be able to drop the lowest two quiz grades.

6. Tests: There will be 3 tests. Make-up tests will NOT be given, unless extraordinary circumstances prevent attendance on the scheduled test date. Furthermore, except in genuine emergencies, a student must notify me of his or her absence in advance. The test dates are:

                                         Wednesday, September 17

                                         Wednesday, October 15

                                         Wednesday, November 19

7. Character of the Quizzes and Tests: Usually, the quiz problems are variants of the homework assignments. Tests will contain a combination of problems and theoretical questions (some short proofs) testing your understanding of the material. A working knowledge of the basic definitions is required. No calculators can be used on any tests or quizzes during this term.

8. Final Exam: A comprehensive final exam will be given on Friday, December 12, 3 pm. An alternate final exam will not be given.

9. Grading standards:
