Quizzes: Nine short quizzes will be given at the beginning of class on each of the dates listed in the syllabus below. In general, make-up quizzes will not given (unless arrangements are made at the beginning of the semester). However, you will be able to "drop" two quiz grades.

Homework: Homework is assigned daily and discussed at each class meeting. You are encouraged to work together with classmates on homework.

Grades: The quizzes count 16% of your final grade. The four tests will count 17% each (for a total of 68%). The final exam will count 16%. Homework, class participation and attendance will be used to decide borderline cases.

Attendance: Attendance is expected for each class meeting. More than two absences will
be considered "excessive" on the midsemester progress reports. See the College of Arts and Science policy on class attendance in the University Bulletin.

Syllabus: We will cover most of the material from Chapters 7 - 12.

Honor System: Vanderbilt's Honor Code governs all work in this course. Students are encouraged to work together on the homework assignments and to study quizzes and examinations from previous semesters. You will be required to write and sign the honor pledge on each graded assignment. That pledge is "I pledge on my honor that I have neither given nor received unauthorized aid on this assignment."

Calculators: You should feel free to use a calculator doing the homework exercises. However, my quizzes, tests and examinations are designed to be done without a calculator and no calculators will be allowed for those.
